I'm gonna be fiddling with my stupid Oprah book forever. The latest thing I'm calling it is Oprah's Dead Son, but it's still not anywhere near done and I've gotta get it done in order to go back and get it done right. I think I started it in 2002. That might have been a while ago. Here's an e-mail I just got:

I do not know you nor I have I done business with you. I have requested not to receive any more emails from you. Unsolicited commercial emails are spam. I will forward the next one I receive from either of these addresses along with my last two emails to the New York Attorney General's consumer protection division. According to your public profile at the Columbia Journalism School website, you're working on your first book "Fake News, Real Politics." I have a free website listing agents and publishers which may be of assistance to you. I sent an e-mail to the address you provided on the Columbia site, which in and of itself is a tacit solicitation of e-mail communication. Further, my e-mail was in no way "commercial." I'm not selling anything. I gave you a link to a free book, links to chapters of a free audio book, offered to send you a free copy of the fifteen-hour audio book in its entirety and gave you the url of my free website which may aid you in your search for representation and the publication of your first book. The audio book is a narrative nonfiction account of the history of America from 1943 to 2003 which includes pertinent audio clips from noteworthy individuals who helped shape "real news" during those years, from The Shadow, Father Coughlin, Charles Lindbergh, JFK, MLK, Robert Welch, Harry Truman, etc. to Allen Ginsberg, Leadbelly, Walter Chronkite, Charles Bukowski, William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, etc. (see the free index I provided you for the others). What that all means is that the book I gave you for free and the audio book I offered to send you for free is "news." Your bio says you're a news guy who, as such, should be interested in news. Whose fault is it that you're not what you say you are? Feel free to include this reply in your complaint to the NY Attorney General and/or whomsoever else you may want to complain to. Thanks. G.

What things don't you like, Gerard? You've piqued my curiosity, though I'm still unsure why you would label me personally as worthless, superfluous, chickenhearted, money-grubbing, Nazi, and moron. I doubt that you've worked in the newspaper industry or you would know that we aren't in it for the cash. Andy

I don't like that with enough hype black becomes white, that a person's value is what he or she's worth in money, that bad books are called good and good books are called bad, that yes you have all the free speech and free press you want but the distribution network is locked up tighter than any Nazi, fascist, police state and all anyone ever gets to see or hear or read is entertaining propaganda that keeps people from knowing they're slaves whose only value is as a consumer. I have worked in the newspaper industry...as a paper boy, and I was in it for the cash. It's not "big" money, no, but it's a living and you do what you're told to do or you get fired. In addition to all those other things, you're brainwashed, as well. It's not your fault, you sound like a decent enough guy, but the totality of what you've been exposed to since you were born has made you do your part to grow the GDP by five percent a year. Period. You think you're brave. You think you're free. You think you matter. Ha! Quit parroting the company line, the company policy, the company dogma for a minute or two and you'll see how much you matter, how brave you are, how free. Thanks. G.

I do not wish to get into discussion or debate with you about what it states. However it might interest you to know that the First Amendment only applies to government acts of censorship, not to acts by private citizens. Dear Beth: You are "off" my distribution list. Other than to answer you I won't send you any more e-mails, but the e-mail addresses of certain members of the SPJ are on its website and are therefore common, readily available knowledge to anyone who knows how to use Google. Get Google to remove them and remove them from your website, then get back to me. I consider "professional journalists" tools of a vast, monolithic propaganda apparatus, the Eiffel Tower of propaganda that makes what Joseph Goebbels did in Nazi Germany look like Tinker Toys. Wouldn't it have been nice if someone had tried to point that out in 1937 or 1938 or 1939? I'm trying, among other things, to point it out. Your grandchildren will thank me. The First Amendment says among other things that there can't be any laws made against free speech and/or a free press. If you think there's a valid law against using Google, sue me. You'd probably be better off just to ignore me and the greatest work of literary art ever made like everyone else does. Thanks. G.
