Ginny Good is an okay narrative nonfiction trade paperback book, mainly about San Francisco in the sixties. It'll make you laugh and cry, teach you things you didn't know, show you things you never saw, blah, blah, blah. The Multimedia Audio Book of Ginny Good is an exquisite work of literary art that will enrich your life and help change the way media is made. Click a link or two and see for yourself. Here are four short chapters, pick one and listen to it.

Chapter 7 (North Beach), New Year's Eve, 1962:

Chapter 23 (Golden Gate Park), Fall, 1967:

Chapter 27 (Sutro Heights), Summer, 1969:

Chapter 35 (I-5), Spring, 2004:

If you're up for something more substantial, try Chapter 19 (La Honda), May, 1965, aka "the acid chapter:"

You can read and/or listen to Ginny Good (ISBN: 0972635750) in its entirety on any device for free:

The link includes the index to The Multimedia Audio Book of Ginny Good, which is free, too—everything I do is free. Click the "Listen (Multimedia)" links to hear more chapters. If you want the whole fifteen-hour extravaganza on .mp3 CDs, give me a mailing address and I'll send you a copy. Thanks. G.

Susan Bradanini Betz, Acquisitions Editor

Dear Gerard, I am an acquisitions editor looking for trade nonfiction on anything liberal or controversial: civil rights, human rights, immigration, war, peace, women's issues, gay rights, politics, the environment, disability rights, Africa (as well as African Americans), Central and South America (and U.S. Latinos), the Middle East, drug culture, etc. In addition, I'm seeking nonpolitical books (pop culture, humor, true crime, whatever comes along) aimed toward African American, Latino, Native American, Asian American, Arab American, or other audiences or written by authors from underrepresented groups. No fiction or poetry. Memoirs ONLY if the manuscript is by a famous (or famously notorious) person or presents a story that has not been told before. If you would like, you can add me to your list. I'm fine w/e-mail queries, but I don't take phone queries or follow-up calls ever. Thanks! Best, Sue

Hey, Sue, you guys did a Neal Cassady book. You'd like Ginny Good, especially the fifteen hour audio book. I've got an clip somewhere of Cassady talking fast and slow. Thanks. G.

Candice Adams

Hi Gerard: Are you looking for a distributor? I've read about the first four chapters of the book and I would definitely be interested in you submitted for consideration. When new submissions come in, we review them with the same criteria as our buyers. So the same things that the major retailers (Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc.) are looking for, we are looking for as well. Because of this we are only able to accept 3% of submissions that we receive. Tanks, Candice

Nah, I'm giving it away. It's already been published and distributed and I got all the rights back. If you want a copy of the super-slick fifteen-hour, multimedia audio book on .mp3 cds, let me know and I'll send you a copy. I can't sell it 'cause it's free. Thanks. G.

Definitely! Can you sign them? I am such a fan of your writing. It's like Philip Roth but better. If you ever write another book, please consider submitting to Greenleaf. We are a distributor and publisher for independent authors and small presses. Our authors can maintain their publication rights, control the timeline and message of their books, and make more money on the back end when the book sells. I do think it's admirable though that you're just giving the book away, but it's seriously worth so much more than free. I have been spreading it around the office. I love the paragraph where you describe the red headed secretary with multiple orgasms and the short but really powerful passage about the narrator?s grandfather. I just loved all of chapter 2 about Ginny. It's really been a pleasure. Thank you for emailing the link. Candice

Make sure you let me know when you start hating it so I don't have to go stand in a long line at the Christmastime PO to send you a copy. G.

I received your book and audiobook CDs in the mail today. Thank you so much. What a wonderful gift! Hope you are having a great holiday.

So how far have you gotten? Do you hate it yet? As soon as you do, give it to someone else. I read somewhere that giving away free stuff releases a really slick hormone so it really IS better to give than receive. That makes me selfish, though. Rats. G.

Hey, Dianne, I just found you guys a month or so ago, I have no idea where, but I noticed that you were in Rockford, IL. I've never been there, but I located one of my books in Rockford and gave the main character a Firebird to drive because of the old TV show The Rockford Files. Then I had to look at maps of the area and included the nuclear plant in Bryon. It was fun to make up a whole town, whether I got it even close to right or not, I do not know. Here's the first few chapters:
